Ever wondered if buying a home is more financially sound than renting? The main factor to understand here is how many months of paying rent will make you the owner of the property you are interested in. The lower the number of months, the more affordable the property is.

Keeping this in mind, the Moneycontrol and Liases Foras Affordable Housing Index report takes a deep dive into India’s housing market. The study, done across 41,000 projects in 32 different cities ranks these as the most affordable Indian cities to buy a house in, instead of rent –

  1. Bengaluru
  2. Indore
  3. Rajkot
  4. Vadodara
  5. Kolkata
  6. Mangalore
  7. Raipur
  8. Guwahati
  9. Pune
  10. Nagpur

These cities stand out due to the balanced interplay between property prices, rental expenses, and other critical factors. Bengaluru leads as the most financially viable city for homeownership. The report focuses on concrete data, emphasizing the practical aspects of property values and rental costs.

Metropolitan areas like the National Capital Region (NCR) and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) don’t fare as well in terms of economic sense for homebuyers. Vizag, surprisingly, boasts the lowest rental yields in the country, posing a challenge for those looking to match monthly rents to property values. Check out the full report here
